Book Launch - Paranormal Warwickhsire by S.C. Skilman

 

Good morning, Bookaholics. I have a treat for you today as my friend and fellow author, S.C. Skilman has a book released today. You may be wondering why I am hosting an author writing a book about the Paranormal - on a Sunday fo all days. Sheila, as she is known to her friends, brings aspects of spirituality into her books and teases this out. I love her books. So, let's give Sheila a warm welcome to Bookaholics. 

Thank you, Wendy, for offering me this chance to appear on your blog on the day my new book is launched.

Paranormal Warwickshire investigates the curious tales at numerous locations in this, the county of William Shakespeare. Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he is widely celebrated, Shakespeare called Warwickshire his home, and although he did find great success in London with his troupe of actors, The King’s Men, he eventually returned to his home town of Stratford-upon-Avon, to live out his final years in his beautiful manor house at New Place. Indeed, it is thought he wrote The Tempest there. It is in this play that we may find the spirit Ariel, servant to Prospero the Magician. I love Shakespeare’s spirits and perhaps my favourite is the mischievous Puck from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Shakespeare’s plays are full of ghosts and spirits, and so I have taken this as my theme for the book. It was easy for me to find quotes from the Bard which enriched or threw into sharp relief my own feelings about each place I visited.

Among the stories in my book we may find several theatre ghosts. It is well known members of the acting profession are superstitious. Actors observe many strange rituals before going on stage to perform; and despite all protestations otherwise, most of them continue to treat Macbeth with great caution. Within the pages of my book I share stories about the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and about Rugby Theatre. Iconic castles, manor houses, abbeys and churches all appear in my pages.

But fear not, there are many stories in my book about everyday places, with working people going about their business. I share stories from trespassing teenagers; retail staff and customers; pub chefs; tourists; and workmen on building sites. Once you start looking for them, showing a readiness to listen to people, and ensuring you have your audio recorder to hand, curious anecdotes and strange first-person accounts are never far away!

Juliet B. Madison - Incarnate Justice

Good morning Bookaholics. Today I’m delighted to welcome Juliet B Madison back to the blog to tell us about her new book. Incarnate Justice, the first title in the Psychic CID paranormal crime series, was released on 23rd November 2015.

No I will give the floor to Juliet.

Incarnate Justice is set in the future – 2040 to be exact – and combines the traditional police procedural with the use of psychic powers and the paranormal to assist in crime solving. It’s set in the fictional UK city of Ashbeck, which is also the setting for the DI Lyle series.

In 2015 thirteen-year-old Ellen Shaw disappeared without a trace. No traces of her alive or dead were ever found and the police dismissed a Psychic’s help.

In 2040 the recently formed Psychic CID are called in to investigate when decomposed human remains are found. The original Missing Person case files yield no clues

Newly promoted DS Joe Lamont has been plagued by disturbing dreams since his early teens and he feels a connection to Ellen that he can’t explain.

Will Lamont’s intuition prove to be a hindrance or a help and can Psychic CID solve the case and get to the truth about what really happened to Ellen?

There will be 5 titles in the Psychic CID series; one based around each of the five main Psychic CID characters.

Here is an excerpt from the prologue of Incarnate Justice, which is set in 2015.

Moira Hart felt very cold suddenly. She had left the coffee shop and returned to her flat. The central heating was on but the ethereal chill penetrated her very marrow.

The young girl had not passed, Moira would have had a sense of it if she had, fuelled from the brief intimate look they had exchanged, but Moira knew that she was in trouble. She didn’t even know the girl’s name and she knew better than to go the police. What could she tell them? The words I’m a Psychic usually made the eyes of officialdom glaze over and were usually accompanied by a “Thank you Madam, but we have enough resources at hand to investigate this ourselves.”

She sighed deeply. She would have to keep close to Spirit and follow its lead as well as following the media. They reported all known details but some were kept back as a means of weeding out cranks. But maybe she was ahead of herself? After all, the girl had not passed. She was sure of that more than anything. Until she turned up, dead or alive, Moira was powerless to act and she hated that.

Doreen Shaw awoke with a start. She had drifted off and she awoke to a chilling feeling. It was gone seven pm and still Ellen had not turned up.

She picked up the phone with shaking hands and dialled her daughter-in-law’s number.

“Hello,”

“Janet, it’s Doreen. Is Ellen with you?”

“No, I’ve been at work and just got home. I thought she was going to yours after school?”

Doreen felt the chill increase despite the warmth in the room.

“She isn’t here, Janet, She never showed up.”

Interview with Author Elizabeth Davies

I am excited that Elizabeth Davies, author of a number of paranormal novels, has agreed to join us on the blog today. Welcome Elizabeth. It is lovely to have you here with us. Thank you for agreeing to an interview so we can find out more about your and your books.


I am sure my readers would like to know something about you. Could you start by telling us a little bit about yourself

I live in Wales, part of the UK, am married and we have a teenage daughter, and a scruffy old dog.


What genre of books do you write

Paranormal romance, though I do have ideas for other novels which are probably more dramas than anything else.


Why does this genre interest you

I can really let my imagination run wild with paranormal novels. No one can really say what’s right or what is wrong within this genre, although the author still needs to make sure it’s plausible.


Could you tell us a bit more about your books

I have three published novels, a trilogy, the first one called ‘State of Grace’. They are a mixture of vampires, time-travel and historical. I have just completed another paranormal romance, this time with the focus on ghosts, but also in a historical setting, called The Spirit Guide, and hope this will be published by the end of August.


The readers of this blog are both writers and readers. What would be your top tip for aspiring writers.

Edit, edit and edit again. Writers never see all their own errors, and believe me, everyone makes them. Get as many eyes to edit/proofread as possible, and if you can afford it, hire a professional. It might not be cheap, but it may save you poor reviews in the future.


Who is your favourite character in one of your books, and why

Roman – he’s a vampire, and I love the way he is so aloof and removed from the problems that humans face.


Where in the world are your books set.

They are set in South Wales, where I grew up. I know the area well, and it is full of mountains and castles, and over 2000 years of history – think King Arthur and Merlin.


Could you tell us a bit more about this area of the world

It is part of the UK, but also separate, in that we have our own government. If readers want to know more about Wales, they can read my blog post on ‘Being Welsh’, www.elizabethdaviesauthor.co.uk.

What would you say is your favourite meal

Lasagne! Whenever we go out for dinner, I’m so boring – I always choose the same thing. I know I’m going to enjoy it, but then I sneak a bit from my husband’s plate just to see if I like what he’s having.



What do you do in your free time

I don’t have much free time, but when I’m not working, writing (and doing things associated with writing), or chores, I like to hike in the mountains. Up high, with the clean wind in my face, and the scents of heather and bracken, I feel cleansed and refreshed.


Could you tell us one surprising thing about yourself

I like playing with bricks and cement – there’s nothing like a bit of DIY to make me feel I’ve achieved something! And laying a patio is quicker than writing a novel…


What would you say was your favourite colour and why

The colour of bluebells. It reminds me of spring, and the summer to come.
